Apple has moved to implement a messaging standard that will facilitate easier communication between iPhones and Android smartphones, Bloomberg News reported on Thursday.

According to the report, the iPhone manufacturer has been resisting the Rich Communication Services standard for almost a year, despite pressure from Alphabet’s Google and other parties to implement the technology.

The company stated that the new technology would provide better interoperability than SMS or MMS and function in tandem with iMessage.

Known as the industry standard for messaging, RCS allows users to talk via WiFi or cellular connection, send and receive high-quality images and videos, and track when messages have been viewed, among other features.
