Salesforce is reducing its workforce by approximately 700 positions, accounting for about 1% of its global employee base, as per a Friday report by the Wall Street Journal.

Despite this reduction, Salesforce currently has around 1,000 vacancies across various departments, suggesting that this move might be a strategic realignment of its human resources, as indicated by a source cited in the report.

This downsizing is part of a broader trend in the tech sector, which has seen a spate of layoffs following a period of aggressive hiring during the COVID-19 pandemic. This trend is evident in major tech corporations like Amazon and Google.

In a similar vein, earlier this week, eBay disclosed plans to eliminate around 1,000 jobs, roughly 9% of its workforce. Microsoft also announced impending layoffs affecting 1,900 employees in its Activision Blizzard and Xbox divisions.

Last year, Salesforce had already initiated workforce reduction, cutting its employee count by 10% and shutting down several offices. This was in response to an excessive expansion of its workforce during the pandemic.
