Russia bans aviation fuel export as Ukraine intensifies attacks on refineries

Russia has announced a ban on aviation fuel exports that will run until November 30, as authorities move to secure domestic supply amid declining refinery output and mounting strain on the country’s energy infrastructure.

The government said the restriction is intended to stabilise the local fuel market, stressing that the priority is to ensure adequate availability for domestic needs, according to Bloomberg.

The decision follows earlier reports that Moscow was weighing limits on diesel and jet fuel exports after refinery activity fell to multi-year lows.

The decline has been linked in part to a series of Ukrainian strikes on Russian energy facilities.

According to Interfax, oil companies were recently urged to scale back foreign sales following a meeting on domestic fuel conditions chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak.

Ukraine has intensified attacks on Russian energy infrastructure in recent months, targeting refineries and pipeline systems, which has disrupted processing capacity and raised concerns about supply adequacy, particularly during peak seasonal demand.
