OpenAI announced in an early Thursday X post that its services, including ChatGPT, the Sora video generator, and its programming interface, were back online after several hours of downtime.
ChatGPT’s popularity continues to soar, with CEO Sam Altman reporting 300 million active users per week as of December 4.
Additionally, Apple released updated software for iPhone, iPad, and Mac, featuring new integrations with ChatGPT.
According to OpenAI’s status page, ChatGPT was down for just over four hours, compared to a five-hour outage in June.
The company reached a valuation of $157 billion in an October funding round, with investments from Microsoft and Nvidia.
The OpenAI’s rapid rise, fueled by the launch of ChatGPT in late 2022, has been one of the biggest tech stories in recent years.
On Monday, OpenAI announced the release of Sora to users in the U.S. and most other countries. However on Tuesday, Altman wrote on X that “we significantly underestimated demand for sora; it is going to take awhile to get everyone access.”
