NLC Northwest Zone suggests N485,000 minimum pay for labourers
The Nigeria Labour Congress Northwest Zone has suggested that N485,000 be the new national minimum wage for all workers in the country.
The Times stated that a document presenting this idea was presented at the North West Public hearing on Thursday.
The meeting, which was a component of the Tripartite Committee on National Minimum Wage deliberations, was held in Government House, Kano’s Coronation Hall.
On behalf of the Northwest leadership, the Chairman of the Congress for Kano State, Mr. Kabir Inuwa, made the request. He justified the suggested N485,000 amount by pointing to the evolving state of the national economy.
He went on to say that “This amount is the approximate monthly cost of living for a family with a mother, father and four kids.
“The leader of the NLC further underlined that the Minimum Wage Act offers all essential safeguards to ensure compliance.
“Thus, he emphasized the need for federal action to compel compliance by preventing any state or public institution that disobeys the minimum wage legislation from receiving funding.”
