NIPOST, KLM partner to boost global mail services

NIPOST reveals reason behind delay in meeting deliveries

The Nigerian Postal Service has entered into a direct international mail partnership with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines to enhance its logistics and mail delivery services.

This was disclosed in a statement by the Postmaster-General/CEO of NIPOST, Tola Odeyemi, via her X account.

Odeyemi emphasized that the partnership will boost the efficiency of international mail delivery by eliminating the dependence on third-party handlers.

“I am incredibly delighted to share a major milestone from my work as the Postmaster General of NIPOST: We have officially signed a direct international mail partnership with @KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, a milestone that marks the first of its kind in many years,” she said.

The collaboration with KLM marks NIPOST’s first direct international mail partnership in years.

The collaboration aims to streamline Nigeria’s international mail services.

By entrusting KLM with outbound deliveries, NIPOST can offer faster and more reliable shipping, minimize the risk of lost or damaged parcels, reduce handling fees, and tap into KLM’s expansive global network covering over 200 countries.

The partnership is set to significantly improve the service experience for NIPOST clients.

“For our clients at @NipostNgn, this translates to: Faster and more reliable delivery, Reduced risk of loss or damage, Lower handling charges, Access to over 200 countries through KLM’s global network,” Odeyemi added.

A key driver of this new partnership is NIPOST’s commitment to settling longstanding debts owed to international carriers.

According to the Postmaster-General, restoring global confidence in NIPOST is a top priority, and the collaboration with KLM marks an important first step in that direction.

She stated that the progress was achieved by resolving longstanding debts owed to international carriers, highlighting the restoration of global trust as a key priority.

“This breakthrough is possible because we have begun clearing longstanding debts owed to international carriers. We are actively working to rebuild global trust, and this partnership is only the first of many doors that will reopen,” Odeyemi stated.

This development is set to boost Nigerian businesses, particularly SMEs engaged in international trade, by enhancing access to faster, more affordable, and reliable shipping services, while opening up greater opportunities for growth in global markets.

“If you run a business, export goods, or sell products online, this development is for you. You now benefit from: Quicker, more affordable international shipping, Greater peace of mind with improved reliability, New potential to reach and grow in global markets,” Odeyemi noted.

Odeyemi emphasized NIPOST’s dedication to offering reliable, secure, and cost-effective logistics solutions, aimed at improving Nigeria’s connectivity with the global economy.

“A more capable, transparent, and globally connected NIPOST is here. We are not just delivering mail, we are delivering solutions and moving Nigeria forward,” she stated.

It was earlier reported that the Nigerian Postal Service has been undergoing extensive restructuring under the guidance of the Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy.

Following his appointment in 2023, Minister Dr. Bosun Tijani invited public contributions to help redefine the agency’s direction, signaling a fresh vision for NIPOST’s place in Nigeria’s digital economy.

The ongoing reforms are already producing visible outcomes.
