The third batch of top Gambian Revenue Authority officers’ in-house intense training sessions on tax audits in the oil and gas business has begun, hosted by the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria.
The PUNCH recorded that, speaking on Monday at the training’s opening ceremony in Lagos, the President and Chairman of the Council of CITN, Mr. Samuel Agbeluyi, emphasized how urgent it is for Africans to come together, work together to achieve greater success and strive for excellence in all spheres of human endeavour.
Agbeluyi expressed happiness at the Gambia Revenue Authority’s choice to consult CITN for expertise.
He confirmed that “CITN had the expertise required to conduct tax audits in the oil and gas industry.”
He emphasized the value of accountability and openness in governance and gave the assurance that the training, which would rely on Nigeria’s experience, would better prepare Gambian tax officials for the sector’s issues.
The eight-day training program, according to the head of CITN, is intended to increase tax personnel’s ability to conduct successful and efficient tax audits in the Gambia’s oil and gas sector.
The training’s objective, according to the Director of Legal and Board Services, Abdulrahman Bah, at the Gambia Revenue Authority was “to strengthen participants’ resilience and competencies in line with the nation’s aspirations to capitalize on abundant oil possibilities.
“We understand that building a solid foundation is essential before pursuing our oil chances. We are keen to benefit from Nigeria’s experience because of their standing as a major force in the oil sector,” he stated
According to Bah, “Our focus is on fostering ethical practices, ensuring responsible handling of oil revenues, and understanding and effectively managing tax implications associated with oil and gas operations.”
