Nigeria has ranked the 9th position for the fastest mobile network and the 23rd position for the fastest broadband network in Africa, as revealed in the latest Speedtest Global Index by Ookla data for January 2024.
According to the index, Egypt leads the continent in terms of the fastest broadband network, while South Africa claims the top spot for the fastest mobile internet connections in Africa.
Globally, Nigeria is positioned as the 93rd country with the fastest mobile network and the 142nd country with the fastest broadband network.
The Speedtest Global Index, a monthly comparison of internet speed data worldwide, provided these rankings.
Meanwhile, Nigeria experienced an increase in active internet users, surpassing 163 million in the last quarter of 2023, according to the National Bureau of Statistics. This reflects a 2.29% rise from the third quarter of 2023 and a 5.81% increase from the fourth quarter of 2022.
The report also noted a 1.32% quarter-on-quarter growth in the number of voice subscribers during the last quarter of 2023.
