Nigeria must confront teacher shortage with urgency – Remi Tinubu

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called for the recruitment of more professional teachers in the country and increased investment in their growth and welfare.

She raised these concerns in her message on Sunday in Abuja, commemorating the 2025 World Teachers’ Day, which was themed “Focusing on the Global Teacher Shortage.”

Mrs. Tinubu stressed the urgent need to draw more attention to teaching, which she noted is one of society’s noblest professions.

According to the First Lady, there is a necessity to take better care of teachers as a way of encouraging more people to join the profession.

She spoke directly to the theme of the day, stating: “The shortage of teachers is a challenge we must confront with urgency by empowering educators, investing in their growth, and inspiring more to join this noble profession.”

She concluded by commending the dedication of teachers nationwide: “Teachers are true heroes, shaping minds, nurturing dreams, and guiding generations. As a lifelong teacher myself, I salute you all on this Special Day. Happy World Teachers Day 2025.”
