Nigeria, Bahrain establish formal diplomatic ties

Nigeria and the Kingdom of Bahrain have officially established diplomatic relations following a visit by Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, to Manama.

In a statement on Sunday, the spokesman for the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alkasim AbdulKadir, disclosed that Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar visited Manama, Bahrain, where he held bilateral discussions with his Bahraini counterpart, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani.

He stated that the discussions centered on strengthening diplomatic relations, attracting foreign direct investment from Bahrain, expanding trade and investment opportunities, and enhancing cooperation in the oil and gas sector, with a focus on onshore projects and the development of Nigeria’s 8th train LNG.

He added that the ministers also discussed training programs for Nigerian diplomats and cooperation within multilateral forums.

“The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, has visited Manama, the Kingdom of Bahrain, while in the Kingdom he engaged in bilateral discussions with his Bahraini counterpart, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani.

“The meeting focused on strengthening diplomatic relations, facilitating foreign direct investment from Bahrain, enhancing trade and investment opportunities, and fostering cooperation in the oil and gas sectors, with particular emphasis on onshore projects and the development of the 8th train LNG.

“The ministers also deliberated on the training of Nigerian diplomats and collaboration within multilateral forums.

“The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, has visited Manama, the Kingdom of Bahrain, while in the Kingdom he engaged in bilateral discussions with his Bahraini counterpart, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani.

“The meeting focused on strengthening diplomatic relations, facilitating foreign direct investment from Bahrain, enhancing trade and investment opportunities, and fostering cooperation in the oil and gas sectors, with particular emphasis on onshore projects and the development of the 8th train LNG,” the statement read in part.

He revealed that both ministers signed a Joint Communiqué, formally establishing diplomatic relations between Nigeria and Bahrain.

He noted that this agreement marks a significant milestone in strengthening bilateral ties and enhancing mutual cooperation.

He stated that this development aligns with Bahrain’s ongoing efforts to strengthen international partnerships. He noted that Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani recently chaired the third meeting of the national committee for monitoring the implementation of the Bahrain Summit Initiatives, highlighting the kingdom’s commitment to global collaboration.
