The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority has commended Dana Air for its safety standard as it recently grounded its airplanes for proper maintenance checks.
The Director General of NCAA, Captain Musa Nuhu, disclosed this to The Punch in Abuja.
According to the aviation Director, the airline stopped all flying operations to carry out maintenance checks on them.
“They noticed that some of their aircraft were due for maintenance and they informed us accordingly. I think it is commendable for an operator to ground its aircraft for maintenance,” Nuhu added.
The Dana Air airline had in the early hours of Friday notified its customers in a statement posted in its verified Instagram page that there would be no flight operations owing to the general elections on Saturday, February 25, 2023.
In the statement, the airline said that flight operations would resume on Sunday, February 26.
The NCAA director said when he was asked if the airline would resume Sunday 26th, “The agreement is that they will notify us when they are due to resume and I think they said they are going to send us something today, once they give us and we are okay, then they can resume operations.”
While speaking, the spokesperson of Dana Air, Kingsley Ezenwa, said, “When there is a reduction in capacity, you just have to find a way to protect your passengers and once your capacity increases, you can schedule your flights.”
