The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority has called on Air Tanzania to meet its legal obligations to passengers stranded in Dar es Salaam and Lagos after the airline failed to operate its scheduled flights.
In a statement on Saturday, the NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, reminded the airline that passengers facing long delays are entitled to hotel accommodation, meals, and regular updates under Part 19 of the NCAA Regulations 2023.
He noted that several Nigerian passengers stuck in Dar es Salaam had raised concerns, including one who needs to attend a visa interview on Monday.
He added that the airline should provide refunds or rebook affected passengers on alternative carriers if it cannot operate its flights over the weekend.
“While the NCAA is available to support you in any way possible, it would be appreciated if you complied with the regulations.
“We have explained the ramifications of a technical fault to your passengers, and they understand that safety comes first. Kindly treat them with the courtesies they are entitled to,” he said.
The NCAA also called on Air Tanzania to offer the same level of care to passengers stranded in Lagos for the outbound flight, adding that it is in communication with travellers in both locations.
