MultiChoice Group has reported an 18% drop in active DStv subscribers in Nigeria, citing the country’s economic challenges as a significant factor.

This decline has contributed to an overall 9% reduction in the company’s subscriber base for the year.

The company revealed these figures in its financial results for the year ending March 31, 2024. Although MultiChoice did not specify the total number of subscribers in Nigeria, it indicated that the decline in this market had a substantial impact on its broader subscriber base outside South Africa, categorized as the “Rest of Africa.”

Due to the decrease in Nigeria, the RoA’s total active subscribers fell by 13%, from 9.3 million in 2023 to 8.1 million in 2024. This significant drop in one of its key markets underscores the challenges MultiChoice faces in maintaining its subscriber base amidst economic difficulties.
