Microsoft is discontinuing its digital assistant Cortana this month in favour of more recent AI innovations like Bing Chat, and other AI-powered Edge.

According to a Microsoft support, Cortana will no longer be available as a standalone app for Windows starting in August 2023.

Cortana will continue to exist in some capacity for Windows users during this transitional period, but the standalone Windows software will no longer be supported.

However, the company emphasises that Cortana will still be accessible for the time being in Microsoft Teams rooms, Teams mobile, Microsoft Teams display, and Outlook mobile.

Those Cortana-powered experiences might not last forever either, as Microsoft has already revealed its plans to introduce Bing Chat to businesses, where it will be linked with Outlook, Teams, and more as well as Microsoft 365 Copilot.
