Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced on Friday that Threads, the Twitter-like app from Instagram, is introducing live scores for sports games. Currently, in testing for NBA games, Threads plans to expand support to additional leagues in the future.
This move aligns with Threads’ ongoing competition with X, which has offered live scores for sports games for approximately a decade. By introducing this new feature, Threads aims to attract users who typically visit X for live game discussions and updates.
In addition to providing live scores, Threads users will have the ability to tap on a team’s logo to join the conversation about that team and connect with fellow fans.
Threads stated that the new feature will simplify the process of participating in conversations about users’ favorite teams, TechCrunch said.
Basketball has emerged as one of the most popular topics on the platform, with NBA Threads becoming one of the app’s most active sports communities. Threads aims to position itself as the go-to platform for sports discourse.
Users can search for a game on Threads to view its start time within one day of the game, check the current score during the game, and see the final score after the game has concluded.
The introduction of live scores represents Threads’ latest endeavor to expand its platform and compete with X. Earlier this week, Threads rolled out its “trending now” feature to all U.S. users, enabling them to discover timely conversations happening on the social network, a feature akin to X’s trending topics.
