Meta explores AI-powered necklace device

Meta is reportedly developing an AI-powered pendant that it plans to begin testing within the next year.

The device is expected to build on technology from Limitless, an AI hardware startup Meta acquired at the end of 2025, according to a memo seen by The Information.

Limitless had created a wearable pendant that could be clipped to clothing or worn as a necklace to record conversations and support AI-driven assistance.
At the time of the acquisition, Meta said the deal would help it “accelerate our work to build AI-enabled wearables.”

Earlier attempts at AI wearables have struggled to gain mainstream traction, with factors such as privacy concerns, uneven marketing, and limited practical utility often cited as key reasons.

Despite this, companies like OpenAI and others continue to invest heavily in the space.

The memo also reportedly reveals that Meta is preparing to broaden its range of AI-powered glasses while introducing a business subscription service called Wearables for Work.

Meta is aiming to revive the performance of its hardware-focused Reality Labs division, which recorded a $4 billion loss in the first quarter of the year.
