The German Research Centre for Geosciences reported that a 4.8-magnitude earthquake occurred in France on Friday.
According to GFZ, the epicentre of the earthquake was close to a commune in the Charente-Maritime region of western France at a depth of 10 kilometres (6.21 miles).
There was no immediate word on injuries or earthquake-related damage.
The GFZ reduced an earlier estimate of a 5.5 magnitude earthquake.
