Lagos grants 14 licences to boost power supply

FG targets 6500 megawatts power generation in six months

The Lagos State Government has granted 14 electricity licences and permits spanning off-grid and embedded generation, independent distribution, metering services, and interconnected mini-grid operations.

The approvals were issued by the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission during its inaugural stakeholder engagement held earlier this week at The Cordis Hotel.

The development represents a significant regulatory milestone in the state’s evolving intrastate electricity market framework, aimed at deepening private sector participation and expanding power access across industrial and residential hubs.

The Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission said the licensing exercise is designed to establish a structured electricity market that attracts investment and enhances power reliability across Lagos.

Axxela Limited was cleared to develop a 5.8MW off-grid generation project at Cadbury Nigeria Plc in Agidingbi.

Daybreak Power Solutions Limited secured multiple off-grid licences covering facilities operated by Seven-Up Bottling Company, Nigerian Breweries Plc, Nigerian Bottling Company, Crown Flour Mill, Nigerdock, and Promasidor Nigeria.

Isolo Power Gen Limited received approval for a 9MW embedded generation project along the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway in Isolo.

Isolo Power Supply Limited was licensed as an Independent Electricity Distribution Network operator, while New Hampshire Capital, GossLink Engineering, and Enaro Energy Mini-Grid Limited received approvals covering metering services and mini-grid operations.

The Commission said the licences underscore its commitment to deepening private sector participation in electricity supply and distribution across the state.
