The Lagos State Government has asked locals to cooperate with them as the building of the Egan-Akesan Road in Alimosho Local Government Area commences.
The project is important for a liveable and sustainable environment, especially for the residents of Egan-Akesan, according to a remark made by the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Oluwole Sotire, during a stakeholder meeting at Ikeja.
According to him, Lagos State was achieving great success in the field of infrastructure renewal in accordance with the “THEMES Agenda,” as seen by the building of roads throughout the state.
While pleading for collaboration, he said that the project’s successful completion would give locals the relief they needed by improving connectivity, reducing traffic, and raising the value of nearby real estate.
Sotire emphasized that establishing the right of way followed a specific procedure, including the service of statutory notices and the marking of affected buildings before the actual removal of encumbrances to make way for the upcoming development in the public interest. This process was a condition precedent to the execution of all public projects, he said.
He outlined how removing obstructions from the right of way for a project’s unobstructed start was crucial for the project’s successful completion.
He said, “In cases where the removal of encumbrances became necessary, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has made the payment of compensation mandatory.
“The government agency in charge of coordinating that is the Lands Bureau, which will need the assistance of the locals while carrying out the enumeration of the affected properties.”
Speaking through the Director of Road Construction & Rehabilitation, Tokunbo Oyenuga, the permanent secretary, Office of Infrastructure, Olufemi Daramola, highlighted the features of the road, including the provision of service ducts, street lights with LED lamps and generating set, as well as the provision of road signage among others.
