Uber Technologies System Nigeria Ltd. has been the target of a punishment by the Lagos State Government for violating a significant data-sharing agreement.
This was verified in a statement released in Lagos on Friday by the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi according to Nairametrics.
Osiyemi clarified that “The drive for the move against Uber was a strong dedication to the security and welfare of the community.
“Osiyemi voiced his dissatisfaction with Uber’s ongoing disregard for fundamental laws, particularly those pertaining to the integration of vital Application Program Interfaces that enhance security and safety.
“He emphasized that in view of ongoing efforts to maintain safety and regulation in the transportation industry, such disobedience was disturbing.”
Additionally, Osiyemi emphasized the critical role that API integration plays in enabling prompt data exchange, permitting government scrutiny, and guaranteeing accountability throughout active trips.
He asked Uber to look for a solution within the current legal framework as soon as possible.
Additionally, he cautioned Uber users that their activities would be equally impacted by the suspension when it was implemented.
The Lagos state government’s ride-hailing laws have prompted businesses such as Bolt and Uber to implement additional compliance checks.
