Participants in the Smart Drinking Roundtable Session of the 2023 International Breweries advised Nigerians to adopt appropriate drinking practices.

The Punch reported that the event, which was recently held in Port Harcourt, had as its theme “Exploring Strategies to Promote Responsible Drinking Habits and Reduce the Negative Impact of Excessive Alcohol Consumption,” according to a statement from the brewery.

The International Breweries’ Responsible Beverage Service is an intervention program in Nigeria with the goal of reducing the negative effects of alcohol brought on by driving while intoxicated, excessive drinking, underage drinking, gender-based violence, and pregnant women who consume alcohol.

According to International Breweries’ Corporate Communications Manager, Eniola Alli-Faweya, the company shares the World Health Organization’s and the United Nations’ desire to minimize the harmful usage of alcohol globally.

The company claimed that the occasion served as the second launch of its responsible beverage service following the first event, which took place in Lagos last year.

In order to promote responsible drinking and take significant steps to reduce harmful alcohol consumption, the keynote speaker and president of the Society for Adolescent and Young People’s Health in Nigeria, Professor Adesegun Fatusi, emphasized the need for collaboration between governmental entities, non-governmental organizations, and vibrant communities.

The Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Health, Adebiyi Olufunsho, said, “The role of corporate organizations like International Breweries in promoting responsible alcohol consumption through evidence-based initiatives is highly encouraged.” Adebiyi Olufunsho was represented by the Director of Pharmaceutical Services, Taiye Ologun.
