Artificial intelligence startup Anthropic announced on Wednesday that Instagram co-founder Mike Krieger has joined the company as its chief product officer.
In this role, Krieger will be responsible for overseeing product engineering, management, and design efforts, with a focus on expanding the reach of Anthropic’s AI chatbot Claude.
Anthropic, backed by major investors like Amazon.com and Alphabet, aims to enhance its AI offerings and stay ahead of competitors like Microsoft-backed ChatGPT maker.
The company recently launched Claude 3, a suite of AI models that outperforms rival models such as OpenAI’s GPT-4 and Google’s Gemini 1.0 Ultra on various benchmark tests.
Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, emphasized Krieger’s expertise in developing intuitive products and user experiences, highlighting the potential for enhancing Claude’s functionality, particularly in workplace environments.
Anthropic recently introduced a business version of Claude 3, priced at $30 per user per month, as part of its strategy to target corporate clients.
Meanwhile, Krieger’s previous venture, Artifact, was acquired by Yahoo last month, following which he joined Anthropic.
Krieger’s decision to join Anthropic comes after his departure as chief technical officer of Meta-owned Instagram in 2018, with limited explanation provided for his resignation.
