How FCT area council, others split N3bn budget

The N3 billion statutory allocation for the month of January has been distributed to the six Federal Capital Territory Local Councils and other stakeholders.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, when compared to the N3,786,194,845.78 billion shared in December 2022, the N3,015,446,815.55 billion amount indicates a 20.3% drop.

The statement was made on Thursday in Abuja by the FCT Minister of State, Dr. Ramatu Aliyu, who was represented by FCTA Permanent Secretary, Mr. Olusade Adesola.

She spoke as the chairperson of the 175th Joint Account Allocation Committee meeting and expressed her appreciation with the area council chairmen’s wise utilization of the cash.

The breakdown of the numbers provided during the JAAC meeting, according to Aliyu, shows that N723,868,728.40 million was made available for distribution to the six area councils.

While the whole amount of N3,015,446,815.55 billion was made accessible to other stakeholders, N2,291,578,087.15 billion was made available to them.

The Abuja Municipal Area Council received N163,631,841.79 million, while Gwagwalada received N109,288,213.43 million, and Kuje received N245,474,216.86 million, according to distributions to the six area councils.

“Other important stakeholders received distributions of N1,927,095,222.79 billion for primary school teachers, N226,478,989.57 million for 15% of pension funds, and N30,154,469.16 billion for 1% of training funds,” the minister said.

While 10% Employer Pension Contribution ate up to N107,849,405.63 million, the total amount was up to N2,291,578,087.15 billion.

In order to address the poor sanitation in the majority of the local councils, Aliyu expressed her unhappiness and gave the Coordinator of Satellite Towns Development Department the task of working with the council chairmen.

The minister admitted that the department has a difficult time managing the garbage dumps in the satellite towns.

“The council chairmen urgently need to help with the cleaning duties in the satellite towns,” she stated.

The director of human resource management, Mohammed Bashir, the mandate secretary for Area Council Services, Ibrahim Dantsoho,and the representative of the FCT to the Revenue Mobilization, Allocation and Fiscal Commission, Malam Abubakar Hussain, are among those in attendance at the 175th JAAC meeting.

Others in the group include John Gabaya of Bwari Area Council, Abdullahi Sabo of Kuje Area Council, and Abubakar Abdullahi of Abaji Area Council.
