The search engine giant, Google has on Tuesday announced that it will delete unused accounts for a period of two years in order to prevent security threats like hacking.

According to Google, if an account has not been used or signed into for at least two years, it may delete the account and content across various platforms like Gmail, Docs, Drive, Meet, Calendar, YouTube, and Google Photos.

However, this policy only applies to personal Google Accounts and not to those for organizations like schools or businesses.

Reuters reported that the company had previously announced in 2020 that it would remove content stored in inactive accounts, but not delete the account itself.

According to the report, Google will start sending multiple notifications to the account email address on Tuesday.

Google also plans to send recovery mail of the inactive accounts before the final deletion which will begin in December 2023.
