YouTube Premium’s monthly subscription cost has surged by $2, bringing it to $13.99 in the United States, reports revealed.
The price adjustment, which also impacts the annual subscription now amounts to $139.99 as a result of a $20 increase.
Meanwhile, YouTube Music, the music streaming platform available standalone or as part of a YouTube Premium subscription, has also witnessed a price hike in the US.
The monthly cost for YouTube Music now matches competitors like Apple Music, Amazon Music, and Tidal at $10.99 per month.
However, Spotify remains an exception, offering its service at $9.99 per month.
The impact on existing subscribers is uncertain at this time. In the past, Google allowed former YouTube Red subscribers to continue paying the old $9.99 monthly rate after rebranding to YouTube Premium in 2018.
However, recent price changes have not been as lenient. Last October, when YouTube raised the price for its Premium family plan, existing subscribers faced higher rates starting the following month.
YouTube Premium offers subscribers ad-free viewing, offline video downloads, background playback, and a higher-quality 1080p streaming option on select platforms for an immersive viewing experience.
The price increase for YouTube Music aligns it with major music streaming services, but Spotify maintains its $9.99 per month charge.
Despite this, Spotify’s CEO hinted at potential price increases, leaving users curious about the company’s future plans.
