The release of a fully customised CPU for Google’s Pixel smartphones has been postponed until 2025, according to The Information on Thursday, which cited two sources familiar with the situation.
According to The Information, Google originally intended to introduce the Redondo chip next year to replace the semicustom chips it now produces with Samsung Electronics.
The tech giant would also switch from using Samsung to Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing company to produce the Tensor chips.
The biggest contract chip manufacturer in the world serves clients like Apple and Nvidia. Google will continue to work with Samsung until 2025.
The Information stated Google will continue working with Samsung for another year and defer the launch of a fully customised design processor, code-named Laguna, until 2025.
