Anambra State Internal Revenue Service has extended the deadline for filing individual annual tax returns by 30 days, granting taxpayers additional time to meet statutory obligations.
In a press statement on Tuesday signed by the Executive Chairman, AiRS, Ikeazor Okonkwo, the agency announced that the original deadline of March 31, 2026, has been shifted to April 30, 2026.
Okonkwo said the extension creates a new filing window from April 1 to April 30, 2026, aimed at allowing taxpayers ample time to accurately complete and submit their returns in line with provisions of the Nigeria Tax Administration Act. He, however, urged individuals to take advantage of the grace period to ensure full compliance, warning them to avoid penalties associated with late or incorrect filings. He also reminded taxpayers to declare all sources of income and provide necessary supporting documents for any reliefs claimed. AIRS stressed that all tax returns must be filed through its approved electronic platform.
The statement read in part, “The statutory deadline for submission, originally set for March 31, 2026, has been extended by 30 days. Taxpayers are now permitted to file their returns within the extended period from April 1 to April 30, 2026.
“This extension is aimed at providing individuals with additional time to accurately complete and submit their tax returns in line with the provisions of Sections 13 and 14 of the Nigeria Tax Administration Act 2025.
“AIRS encourages all taxpayers to take advantage of this extension to ensure full compliance and avoid potential penalties associated with late or incorrect filings.
“Taxpayers are reminded that all relevant income earned must be properly declared and supporting documentation for claiming any relief is provided. Filing should be strictly done through our approved electronic filing platform at www.tax.services.an.gov.ng.
“Failure to file within the extended deadline of April 30, 2026, shall attract penalties and other enforcement actions in accordance with applicable tax laws. The deadline will not be further extended.
“For further inquiries or assistance, taxpayers are advised to contact the nearest AIRS office or visit the official communication channels of the Service.”
