Africa’s leading payments technology company, Flutterwave has joined forces with the International Air Transport Association to enhance travel experiences and facilitate seamless payments for airlines operating in sub-Saharan Africa.

Through this collaboration, airlines worldwide can leverage Flutterwave’s integration with IATA’s Financial Gateway to process payments from customers using various methods, including cards, bank transfers, mobile money, and alternative payment solutions.

IFG, a comprehensive payment orchestration and management platform tailored for the airline industry, empowers airlines to accept local payments through all distribution channels in their respective markets.

With over 290 international airlines under the IATA umbrella, this partnership enables them to expand their operations in Africa effortlessly.

It allows airlines and travel agencies to accept multiple forms of payment from customers when booking airline tickets.

By utilizing Flutterwave via IFG, global airlines can now collect local currencies and leverage indigenous payment methods, ensuring a seamless payment experience for millions of customers in Africa and other markets where Flutterwave operates.

CEO & Founder of Flutterwave, Olugbenga “GB” Agboola, expressed his excitement about the partnership, stating, “This partnership with IATA solves the problem of payments for global airlines venturing into Africa. We hope that this encourages more global airlines to expand into Africa.”

IATA’s Senior Vice President for Financial Settlement and Distribution Services, Muhammad Albakri, further highlighted the significance of the collaboration, saying, “The IATA Financial Gateway supports the availability of new payment options in many markets. We welcome Flutterwave’s participation to bring secure and innovative payment methods to airlines, travel resellers, and the traveling public in Africa.”

As Africa’s aviation industry is projected to witness substantial growth in the coming years, Flutterwave and IATA’s partnership aims to accelerate this growth by providing a robust and streamlined payment infrastructure.

By simplifying payment processes and offering diverse payment options, airlines can focus on expanding their operations across the continent and delivering exceptional travel experiences to passengers.
