President Bola Tinubu as well as the Nigerian government is implementing additional measures such as the Cassava Bioethanol project to increase economic output.
Nairametrics reported that the upcoming introduction of regional awareness and sensitization workshops intended to strategically implement the cassava bioethanol project will be held in each of the six geographical regions of the country, with Enugu State in the South East serving as the initial host, according to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Budget and National Planning, Nebeolisa Anako.
Anako emphasized that the present administration is steadfast in its commitment to reshaping Nigeria’s economy in line with the aspirational Nigeria Agenda 2050, the Sustainable Development Goals for 2030, and the National Development Plan for 2021–2025.
In particular, he noted that important steps had already been taken to revitalize the economy, such as the elimination of fuel subsidies and the simplification of exchange rate mechanisms:
“The National Development Plan 2021–2025 and the Nigeria Agenda 2050 both outline the country’s development goals, and the new administration is committed to modernizing Nigeria’s economy to meet these goals.”
Anako emphasized the initial focus of the future workshops on the Cassava bioethanol value chain, which would promote industrial growth and increase food availability across the country.
“The goal is to increase employment while also developing Nigeria’s economy and food supply.”
Ethanol is a biofuel that may be produced from starchy plants like maize and cassava and is mostly used in Brazil and the US.
The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation developed 2,675 hectares of cassava crops for the production of bioethanol in Kebbi state in 2020 while the Buhari administration was in power.
