The Ministry of Transportation, represented by Minister Saidu Alkali, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with Messrs MPH Rail Development Limited for the development of the Port Harcourt–Enugu–Calabar–Abuja Standard Gauge Rail Line through a public-private partnership.
This agreement, as disclosed by Olujimi Oyetomi, the Ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, underscores the commitment to modernizing railway infrastructure in line with the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The MoU grants Messrs MPH Rail Development Limited the responsibility for designing, constructing, commissioning, operating, and eventually transferring the Port Harcourt–Enugu–Calabar–Abuja Standard Gauge Rail Line.
The signing ceremony, attended by Minister Alkali and representatives of MPH Rail Development Limited, including the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transportation, Olufemi Oloruntola, the Director of Rail Development, Engr. Zirra Fimbarr, and the Director of Legal Services, Pius Oteh, emphasized the government’s support for the project’s successful execution.
Minister Alkali reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to facilitating the project’s implementation and stressed the importance of promptly submitting all necessary documents to expedite approval from the Federal Executive Council.
This initiative signifies a significant step towards enhancing transportation infrastructure and fostering economic development across the region.
