The Federal Road Maintenance Agency has said that measures are in the works to patch potholes and intervene in the rehabilitation of failed roads around the country as the rainy season approaches.
This was disclosed in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Sunday in Abuja by the interim Managing Director of FERMA, Mr. Godson Amos.
He claimed that the intervention was required in order to lessen the difficulties and delays daily road users encounter and would be successful within six weeks of starting, with all potholes and other road defects fixed on federal routes across the country.
He claimed that he had heard reports from all parts of the country about the deplorable Federal Roads across the country which had caused a lot of inconveniences to road users.
“The country’s seemingly constant rain is a major contributor to the country’s road problems since it frequently cuts off road embankments and causes many carriageway sections to collapse at various sites.
“Other reasons that have contributed to the deterioration of the federal highways include heavy traffic, overloaded cars, and the age of the roadways.”
He stated that this prevents the free flow of traffic, resulting in severe harm to vehicles, the loss of valuable labour time, and extreme inconvenience for other road users.
He added that evaluations had been done, including assessments of the labour requirements and estimates of the resources, such as people, materials, and machines, that would be used to produce the most cost-effective outcome.
According to Amos, the agency had developed a good monitoring process for effective and efficient monitoring of all the projects nationally while dispatching management teams for inspection. This was done to ensure that the agency got the best outcomes possible.
He urged all stakeholders to work with the agency to guarantee that residents have stress-free and joyful travel experiences, and he urged the media to effectively report the agency’s actions.
