The Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku has stated that the Oruma rigid pavement road in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa would act as a key by-pass for commuters in several communities in both Rivers and Bayelsa States.
The Punch reported that NDDC’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Pius Ughakpoteni, said this in a statement on Monday.
Ogbuku reportedly made this statement while inspecting the road with engineers and directors of the NDDC.
He added that the commission was expediting the road’s development in order to guarantee its commissioning before the end of the month.
The Oruma route, which connected the 23.5-kilometer Otuasega-Obedum-Emelego Road and the bridges that connected the villages of Bayelsa and Rivers, according to Ogbuku, would increase the impact of the regional route.
The completion of the road project, according to Ogbuku, was a part of the NDDC management’s efforts to complete all ongoing projects in the Niger Delta.
According to him, “the road is very important because it would assist locals, mostly farmers, in evacuating their agricultural produce to cities and towns for sale.”
Ogbuku urged local youths and community leaders to work with the project’s contractor so that the road could be finished on time.
“The contractor has been instructed to finish this road by the end of October,” according to Ogbuku.
The NDDC team had earlier received assurances from the contractor, Mr. Ken Ejibas, that the project would be finished on time.
He complimented the Oruma Community for their cooperation and support and thanked the NDDC for starting the project.
