The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has launched Operation Go Cashless, a new initiative that will eliminate the use of cash at its revenue points across airports nationwide.
According to a press release issued on Thursday, the move, which FAAN is implementing in partnership with payment platform Paystack, will take effect from September 29, 2025, beginning at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
Under the new system, all transactions at airport access gates, car parks, and FAAN VIP and Protocol Lounges will be conducted using contactless digital payment methods. Passengers and airport users will now enjoy faster, safer, and more seamless services as the collection of cash at these points is phased out.
According to FAAN, the initiative is designed to align Nigeria’s airports with global digital payment trends while enhancing efficiency, improving revenue assurance, and ensuring a better customer experience.
To support the transition, FAAN has deployed trained brand ambassadors at airport access gates and terminals to guide users, demonstrate payment procedures, and address concerns. Travelers can also obtain a FAAN Go Cashless Card at designated access gates in Lagos and Abuja, which can be activated and funded via (link unavailable) FAAN assured that the policy will be expanded to other airports across the country in phases as part of its commitment to continuous improvement.
