Enugu table, sachet water producers shut down over harsh economy
The Association of Table Water Producers in Enugu State stated that it has commenced a temporary shutdown of its water production factories as a result of the high cost of production.
After an emergency meeting on February 8, 2024, ATWAP suspended all Table Water Producers in the state, including those producing sachets and pet bottles, from February 12 to February 15, 2024.
The Association identified various challenges faced by members in the daily operations of their business. These challenges includes ” over 500% increment in the price of raw materials such as nylon, packing bags, purifying materials, procurement of water from boreholes located outside the city, diesel, transportation and staff cost” it said.
In response to the current economic realities, ATWAP said it has resolved that a bag of sachet water will now be sold for N300 henceforth.
This upward review of price is to sustain it’s members and avert the total collapse of their businesses.
ATWAP warned it has activated its task force, and any defaulter to the agreement reached by its members will pay a fine of #200,000 per truck/driver caught.
In the statement, it appealed to the corporation of dealers and consumers soliciting understanding during this period while also acknowledging the challenges.
