The Eko Electricity Distribution Company has received the well-respected ISO 27001:2013 accreditation in information security management systems.
The Punch reported that the utility company said in a statement that the ISO 27001 certification was the international benchmark for information security management systems, which ensured organizations kept information assets secure by constructing infrastructure to protect them from loss, damage, theft, and other threats.
The managing director and chief executive officer of EKEDC, Dr. Tinuade Sanda, expressed the company’s joy at receiving the certification following a thorough audit process by internationally certified auditors based in India, Syndicate of International System Certifications in collaboration with Leitung Gate Limited, who provided all necessary support.
It is evidence of the Company’s dedication to the highest security, moral, and professional standards, she continued.
“It is extremely impressive that we can do this following the certifying body’s careful exercise. I was quite happy with my team’s assistance during the audit. The special workgroup and champions who saw this through deserve my gratitude as well. I’m honoured to be in charge of such a wonderful team of brilliant and committed people,” she added.
The accreditation is given to firms that have put in place a framework of policies and procedures that systematically handle and protect sensitive data, according to EKEDC’s Chief Information Officer, JP Attueyi.
He added that the business was committed to obtaining best-in-class certifications and putting global standards into practice.
