The founder and CEO of Bumble, Whitney Wolfe Herd is leaving her position as CEO, the company announced on Monday.
The current CEO of Slack, Lidiane Jones, will succeed Wolfe Herd. Jones assumed the position in January. Jones’s employment at Bumble will begin on January 2, 2024. Wolfe Herd will continue to serve as executive chair of Bumble.
In 2014, Wolfe Herd—who had previously co-founded Tinder—founded Bumble following her expulsion from the company. Bumble began as a dating app where women would initiate interactions with one another; the brand has subsequently branched out into networking and friendships.
“This move to Executive Chair gives me the ability to step forward into a new and exciting role, get back to my founder roots and bring immense passion and focus to this next chapter of growth,” Wolfe Herd said in a statement.
In September, Wolfe Herd participated live at Code 2023. Unlike Roblox CEO David Baszucki, she doesn’t seem to be in favour of people dating in virtual worlds.
