Forbes Real-Time Billionaires has reported that Nigerian entrepreneur and philanthropist, Aliko Dangote, has restored his title as Africa’s richest person.

This is coming after a South African business billionaire, Johann Ruper, surpassed Dangote as Africa’s richest man last week.

According to the January 8 ranking, Dangote’s net wealth increased by $10 million to $10.1 billion, while Rupert’s net worth was $10 billion, down from $10.7 billion on January 30, 2023.

Dangote, the CEO of Dangote Group, is ranked 191st on the Forbes list of the world’s wealthiest persons, whereas Rupert is ranked 197th.

In 2007, the Nigerian businessman became the country’s first billionaire.

According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, he added $9.2 billion to his personal wealth in 2013, making him the 30th richest person in the world and the richest person in Africa at the time.

He was the wealthiest individual in Africa as of June 2022, with an estimated net worth of US$20 billion.
