Covenant University has been named Nigeria’s top university in the Times Higher Education (THE) 2024 World University Rankings.
The Times Higher Education World Rankings is a prestigious annual assessment of universities worldwide, and this year’s edition features 1,907 institutions from 108 countries.
Covenant University, Nigeria’s highest-ranking institution, placed within the 801-1000 range globally, alongside the University of Ibadan (UI).
The rankings are based on 18 performance indicators that evaluate universities across five key areas: teaching, research environment, research quality, industry impact, and international outlook.
This year’s rankings analyzed more than 134 million citations from 16.5 million research publications, and survey responses from over 68,000 scholars. A total of 411,789 data points from 2,673 universities were used to determine the final rankings.
Globally, the University of Oxford retained the top spot for the eighth consecutive year. Stanford University moved up to second, while the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) rose to third, pushing Harvard University to fourth. The University of Cambridge slipped to fifth after being jointly ranked third last year.
