The Central Bank of Nigeria has announced the unexpected postponement of its much-awaited 293rd Monetary Policy Committee meeting, which was initially planned for Monday and Tuesday, September 25 and 26, 2023.
According to Nairametrics, the Director of Corporate Communications at the CBN, Dr. Isa AbdulMumin, announced the decision to postpone this crucial meeting in a press statement on September 20, 2023.
“The 293rd meeting of the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Monetary Policy Committee, which was supposed to take place on September 25 and 26, 2023, respectively, has been postponed.
“In due course, a new date will be announced. Any inconvenience that this move may bring about for our stakeholders and the general public is regrettable.”
Although the CBN has not stated why the deferral was made, such decisions frequently depend on a number of economic and financial variables.
Though there were suspicions that the existing deputy governors would soon step down, it’s probable that the central bank’s decision was influenced by the recent appointment of new deputy governors.
