Privacy-focused search engine Brave launched its own image and video search engine.
“We realize that the redirect option was not popular with some of our users, and thank them for their patience during this transition,” a blog post announcing Brave’s new feature reads.
“This was a temporary decision to help users find results with minimum hassle, while we worked to offer a sustainable, privacy-preserving, and independent image and video search option.” It added.
Since the results are now direct from Brave Search’s own independent index, users won’t need to leave Brave to access image or video search results, according to the platform.
The information comes after Brave declared in April that it will stop using Bing’s index, which had previously accounted for 7% of all search results.
According to Brave, the image and video search capability has been under development for a while and is now being made available via the just-launched Brave Search API.
Before the debut, Brave provided users with the option of a different picture or video search by way of a redirect to Bing or Google. This feature allowed users to search in a familiar manner while Brave’s own index was under construction.
Although it may be used separately at search.brave.com, the Brave Search engine is the company’s Brave web browser’s default search engine.
