Bearish investors dominated Friday’s trading session, with the Nigerian Exchange closing in the red.
The Times reported that the All-Share Index closed at 67,324.59 index points, down 1.39% from the 68,271.14 index points it had at the end of the previous trading day.
In the same vein, the market value of shares fell sharply, falling N518 billion to settle at N36.847 trillion, 1.39% below the N37.365 trillion recorded in the previous trading session.
NEM (10.00%) topped the gainers and Oando (-9.89%) headed the losers, with Univinsure being the most actively traded equity by volume at the finish of today’s session.
The top gainers were NEM, LASACO, and Cornerst, who each had gains of +10.00%, +9.68%, and +9.60%, respectively.
Oando, Dangote Cement, and Ikeja Hotel, which lost -9.89%, -8.49%, and -8.09%, respectively, lead the list of the top losers.
Compared to the 1.12 billion shares moved during the previous session, there was less trading activity today, with 1.03 billion shares changing hands.
In terms of volume, Univinsure topped the list with 670.23 million units traded. The top 3 traded equities for today were Oando (60.09 million) and Sterling (65.17 million).
Oando (N719.98 million) led the list in terms of value traded, with Access Holdings (N561.45 million) and UBA (N427.86 million) rounding out the top three.
Shares of companies with market capitalizations greater than $1 trillion (swoot) performed inconsistently, with Dangote Cement (-8.49%) and GTCO (-0.14%) both experiencing declines as Zenith Bank (0.15%) positive.
BUA Cement, BUA Foods, Seplat Energy, MTN Nigeria, and Airtel Africa all experienced flat closing prices at the same time.
Shares of Tier 1 banks experienced a mixed trading session, with UBA (2.6%), Access Holdings (2.07%), and Zenith Bank (0.15%) all recording positive sessions, while GTCO (-0.14%) closed in the red and FBN Holdings closed unchanged.
