“Barbie,” a movie directed by Greta Gerwig, has retained its top spot at the box office in Nigeria, earning N177 million in just four weeks.
According to Nairametrics, the film, which has captured moviegoers’ attention since its debut, demonstrated outstanding staying power by maintaining the top spot throughout its run in Nigerian theatres.
From its opening weekend profits of N39.6 million, “Barbie.” is currently the top movie in Nigeria.
Within the first seven days, the movie saw a noteworthy N66.5 million increase. Keeping up with this trend, the film has now exceeded the N177 million milestone.
In order to build excitement for the movie’s July 21, 2023 release, Filmhouse Cinema held a brunch with a Barbie theme at the Art Hotel after the premiere.
“Barbie” is on track to achieve astounding heights outside of Nigeria, with global earnings close to a mind-boggling $1.2 billion.
It has exceeded cinematic history in the US, grossing over $537.5 million at home theatres.
This accomplishment made “Barbie” the highest-grossing domestic release in Warner Bros. history, breaking the previous record held by Christopher Nolan’s 2008 superhero epic “The Dark Knight.”
