At least 16 people have been confirmed dead after a Bangladesh Air Force jet crashed into the Milestone School and College campus in Uttara, a northern suburb of the capital, Dhaka.
The aircraft, identified as an F-7 BGI fighter jet, took off at 1:06 p.m. local time before crashing shortly afterward, according to the military’s public relations office.
The crash occurred while students were attending regular classes or sitting for exams.
Videos from the scene show plumes of smoke and flames rising from the wreckage as large crowds gathered nearby.
Local media outlet, The Daily Star reported that more than 100 people were injured, citing figures from multiple hospitals.
Bengali-language newspaper Prothom Alo added that many of the injured were students suffering from burn wounds.
