Apple Inc.’s highly anticipated artificial intelligence features will debut later than initially planned, missing the launch of the company’s upcoming iPhone and iPad software updates, according to a Bloomberg News report on Sunday.
The iPhone maker is now expected to start rolling out its Apple Intelligence features as part of software updates scheduled for October, the report indicated, citing sources familiar with the matter.
These AI features are set to be introduced several weeks after the initial releases of iOS 18 and iPadOS 18, which are planned for September.
Apple is preparing to offer Apple Intelligence to software developers for early testing as soon as this week through the iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1 beta versions. The company has yet to respond to requests for comment outside regular business hours.
In June, Apple highlighted its commitment to artificial intelligence with a series of new features and software updates designed to boost its flagging sales. Apple Intelligence, which leverages AI to generate text, images, and other content on demand, will be available on iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and iPads and Macs equipped with M1 chips or newer.
The upcoming MacOS Sequoia update will also include iPhone Mirroring, allowing users to view and interact with their iPhone screens directly on Mac computers.
The delay in the rollout of these AI features follows Apple’s decision in late June to postpone the launch of three new AI functionalities. This postponement was driven by the need to comply with new European Union regulations requiring compatibility with rival products and services.
