Apple unveils new MacBook Air, Pro with M5 chips

Apple unveils striking 'Liquid Glass' redesign at WWDC 2025

Apple on Tuesday introduced a new lineup of laptops, unveiling updated MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models powered by its latest M5 chips.

The Pro versions also feature the newly launched M5 Pro and M5 Max processors, which the company says include its most advanced CPU cores to date.

According to Apple, the upgraded M5 chips are engineered to significantly enhance performance in demanding AI workloads, an area that is increasingly central to its hardware strategy.

The company claims both the new MacBook Air and MacBook Pro can process AI tasks up to four times faster than their M4-based predecessors.

MacBook Air users will benefit from up to 18 hours of battery life — about six hours longer than Apple’s final Intel-based models released in 2020.

The laptop also features a 12MP Center Stage camera for improved video calls, a three-microphone array, and a sound system compatible with Spatial Audio and Dolby Atmos.

In terms of connectivity, the MacBook Air includes two Thunderbolt 4 ports, a MagSafe charging port, and a traditional 3.5mm headphone jack.

As expected, the MacBook Pro is aimed at power users, particularly developers building and testing AI applications.

Apple says the new M5 Pro and M5 Max chips deliver up to four times faster large language model prompt processing compared with the M4 Pro and M4 Max, and up to eight times faster AI image generation than the M1 Pro and M1 Max.

The company adds that these performance gains enable AI researchers and developers to train custom models directly on their devices, while creative professionals can enjoy faster 3D rendering, smoother video editing, and more efficient music production workflows.
