Apple testing Siri upgrade to let users control apps by voice

Apple is testing a new version of Siri that would allow users to perform actions across multiple apps entirely through voice commands, Bloomberg reported on Monday.

The upgrade would build on Apple’s App Intents framework, which enables developers to make parts of their apps accessible via systems like search and Shortcuts.

If successful, users could, for example, ask Siri to find a photo, edit it, and send it to a contact; post on a social media app; or log into a service without touching their device.

Apple is trialling the feature with apps including Uber, AllTrails, Threads, Temu, Amazon, YouTube, Facebook, and WhatsApp. The company is expected to roll out a revamped Siri in spring 2026, following a 2024 preview that showcased a more intelligent assistant capable of deeper app integration.
