Apple is actively seeking partnerships to enhance its recently announced Apple Intelligence with generative AI capabilities.
According to a report by the Wall Street Journal, Apple has held discussions with Meta regarding the potential use of Meta’s generative AI model. Similar talks have reportedly been held with startups Anthropic and Perplexity. However, as of now, no agreements have been finalized, according to the WSJ report.
During the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) earlier this month, Apple confirmed a much-rumored partnership with OpenAI. This collaboration will bring ChatGPT to newer iPhones, iPads, and Macs with the next generation of the devices’ operating systems.
At the event, Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior VP of software engineering, also mentioned Google’s Gemini as a potential addition to Apple Intelligence in the future. “We want to enable users ultimately to choose the models they want,” Federighi said, indicating Apple’s openness to multiple partnerships.
For now, OpenAI remains the only confirmed partner. OpenAI’s GPT-4 will be integrated into Apple Intelligence to enhance Siri and other tools, with some features expected to roll out later this year.
