Apple has declined proposals from Meta to integrate Meta’s AI chatbot into the iPhone, Bloomberg News reported on Monday.
According to the report, the two companies engaged in brief discussions in March but are no longer in talks for an AI partnership involving Meta’s Llama chatbot.
These discussions never reached a formal stage, and Apple was not actively planning to integrate Llama into iPhones, primarily due to concerns about Meta’s privacy practices, which Apple reportedly found insufficiently stringent.
The preliminary talks occurred as Apple was negotiating deals to incorporate OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Alphabet’s Gemini into its products. Apple revealed its AI strategy at its annual developer conference in June, introducing OpenAI’s ChatGPT to its devices and integrating its new “Apple Intelligence” technology across its suite of apps, including the virtual assistant Siri.
The Wall Street Journal first reported the news of the talks between the companies on Sunday.
