Apple considers outsourcing Siri’s AI brain to Google

Apple faces $1.1bn in tariff costs as trade tensions escalates

Apple is exploring a potential partnership with Google to power a redesigned Siri voice assistant using the Gemini artificial intelligence model.

According to people familiar with the matter, Apple has held preliminary discussions with Alphabet about developing a customized Gemini model to underpin an upgraded version of Siri expected next year.

The iPhone maker has not yet decided whether to rely on in-house AI technology or an external partner and is still weeks away from making a final choice, according to Bloomberg.

The talks highlight Apple’s struggle to keep pace with rivals such as Google and Samsung, which have already rolled out generative AI assistants and advanced features across their devices.

Apple’s long-planned overhaul of Siri—intended to improve task execution using personal context and enable full voice-based control—was delayed by a year following engineering challenges.

Google declined to comment on the report, while Apple has yet to respond.
