Apple announced new features for its AirPods lineup at the Worldwide Developers Conference on Monday, introducing studio-quality audio recording and a new camera remote gesture.
The upgrades, coming to AirPods 4, AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation, and AirPods Pro 2, are designed to enhance both content creation and communication experiences for users.
With the new audio recording feature, users can capture high-quality sound even in challenging environments. Apple says the combination of its H2 chip, beamforming microphones, and computational audio will enable clearer, more natural voice recordings, whether you’re recording content on the move or making calls via FaceTime or third-party apps.
In addition to the audio boost, AirPods will now double as a camera remote. By pressing and holding the AirPods stem, users can trigger the iPhone’s camera or compatible third-party camera apps to take photos or start video recording.
Apple says the feature will offer options for both still images and video, making it especially useful for creators and vloggers.
Though the company hasn’t confirmed any direct links, the gesture-based control may be a preview of how users could interact with future Apple products, including rumored augmented reality glasses.
With these updates, Apple continues to position AirPods as more than just wireless earbuds, evolving them into versatile accessories for both productivity and creativity.
